Ford Mustang Stars in “Need for Speed”

DreamWorks Studios is turning the popular EA video game Need for Speed into a film and Ford was chosen as the film’s exclusive partner. A one of a kind Ford Mustang Hero was unveiled for the film at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles.

The custom Mustang is a key character in the movie, becoming a part of the story. It features a custom wide body, 22-inch alloy wheels and larger air intakes to feed the supercharged V8.

DreamWorks Studios and Ford Motor Company Announce Exclusive PartnershipFord is providing other cars to the movie, too. An F-450 truck known as “The Beast” will be used, as well as a Mustang being used as a camera car to film car races in new ways.

Need for Speed brings back the car films of the 60s and 70s and follows the cross-country journey of the heroes. What begins as a journey for revenge becomes a journey for redemption. The popular video game has sold more than 140 million games.

The movie stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Dominic Cooper (Captain America), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Michael Keaton (Batman).

By appearing in this movie, the Ford Mustang will have nearly 3,000 appearances in feature films and TV shows. What better way to celebrate 50 years of the Mustang?

Ford Fights Allergens

Ford Tests for AllergensFor more and more people, allergies are serious business. Ford has noticed and is doing its part to make sure that Ford cars are as allergen free as possible.

Any surface of the car that is commonly touched for 30 seconds or more is tested for allergens. That means the steering wheel, seats, armrests and shifters. Cabin air filters are also installed to catch dust, spores, fungus, pollen, soot, smog and tobacco smoke and keep it from entering the car. You may not even know you have the filter; it is accessed through the glove box and is changed during your routine maintenance.

Ford requires that more than 100 materials meet tough standards to reduce allergy issues, this includes reducing/eliminating things like latex, chrome and nickel.

To find out more about which Ford cars help fight allergens, visit your Kansas City, MO Ford dealer, Matt Ford Sales. Visit us online or call (888) 229-5268 today.

Happy Birthday Ford Mustang

1964 Ford MustangApril 17, 2013 – 49 years to the day since the Ford Mustang debuted in New York. That’s a pretty big milestone for the iconic American car. But that isn’t the only milestone that Ford celebrated yesterday. Yesterday also marked the one millionth Mustang to come off the line at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant. The one millionth Mustang made there since Flat Rock began production in 2004.

Mustang production began at the famous Rouge factory near company headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. Rouge was the primary factory for four decades until it was moved to Flat Rock in 2004.

The Mustang was introduced in April 1964 and quickly became more popular than anyone had expected. Because of demand, Ford added production capacity outside Michigan. Plants in New Jersey and California were building Mustangs by early 1965.

The one millionth Mustang was built just two years after the Ford Mustang was introduced, on March 2, 1966. To date over 8.5 million Mustangs have been built and sold.

If you’re looking to get a piece of American history, come visit us at Matt Ford Sales to see the 2013 Ford Mustang as well as the entire 2013 Ford lineup. Stop by or give us a call at (888) 229-5268 to schedule a test drive.

Ford Atlas: That’s One Tough Truck

The Ford Atlas, the newest truck concept from Ford, was designed for one thing: being tough. Every detail of the Atlas serves a purpose. But designers wanted to be sure to balance function with an eye catching design. In order to achieve balance, the early sketches went through a lot of changes to reach the final design.

In the first sketches, the Ford Atlas had a windshield that continued over the heads of the driver and passenger, to create the illusion of a moonroof. Ultimately, an integrated roof carrying system for large cargo was included instead.

For any truck, maximum storage space is a necessity. So how about a hollow space inside the tailgate for tools and other small equipment? Designers decided the Atlas was better suited for large cargo and included a cargo cradle that pulls out of the tailgate instead.

Finally, sometimes the work starts before the sun is up. The original Ford Atlas sketches included lights from the top of the cab that shine into the bed. It was decided that in order to see the cargo better, the light should come from inside the cab. The Ford Atlas concept has lights inside the truck bed walls.

The final design of the Ford Atlas is definitely a thing of beauty, and a rugged tough beauty at that. To see the Ford Tough Trucks that are already available for purchase, come visit us at Matt Ford Sales, your Kansas City Ford dealer.Ford Atlas concept

Ford’s Top Secret Sun Lab

The Visual Performance Evaluation Lab at FordWhy would Ford need a lab with 6,000 watts of lighting – including 300 spotlights and floodlights? In order to imitate the phases of the sun, of course. Depending on the time of day and position of the sun, the interior and exterior of the car can look very different.

The Visual Performance Evaluation Lab lets Ford designers test how light affects the interior of the car. Are there glares from the dashboard? Do the colors fade out and look different? Can the driver see illuminated controls?

Depending on what the lighting tests show, designers can choose to change the colors or materials used on the interior. No detail is overlooked to make sure the driver will have the best experience possible.

Before creating the Visual Performance Evaluation Lab, Ford had to physically take the test models out on the road in different conditions. Even though 6,000 watts probably creates a high electric bill, in the long run the lab saves money and time for Ford vehicle development.

To see the results of the Visual Performance Evaluation Lab for yourself, come see the Ford 2013 lineup at Matt Ford Sales.
